The Internationally-renown Haddonstone company have today completed and installed the Welcome & Information spheres at 9 of the main entrances to The Racecourse. This local company have been pleased to design and construct these small features at this important location.
Unfortunately, the Information Disks which fit onto the offcut face of the spheres have not been satisfactorily completed in time but should arrive in the next few weeks. Each sphere will welcome visitors to The Racecourse, indicate the Healthy Walk routes and the distances around the park, describe a particular historical aspect about The Racecourse and have a unique emblem as part of a children's trail around The Racecourse. The materials used are durable and of high quality and will be attractive but unobtrusive welcome features.
Some of the dog bins at the entrances will probably need to be moved a short distance to accomodate these more attractive features but a clean and healthy Racecourse is essential and no dog bins will be removed.
'The Arrow' opposite the University of Northampton and designed by a local student is almost complete. Whereas a few people have expressed their dislike about The Racecourse having any new construction on it, the general response has been very positive and enthusiastic. It's a practical piece of art that encourages people to meet, chat, rest and play on it. Anyone visitng 'The Arrow' will see that it is an unobtrusive feature against the vast openess of The Racecourse -the unique feature that The Friends of The Racecourse intend to uphold.
