TIME TO PLAY AT THE RACECOURSE

FRIENDS OF NORTHAMPTON RACECOURSE (FONR) Healthy Living Hub are pleased to announce new and exciting and adventurous play facilities for young people that will be installed on a small section of the Northampton Racecourse at the head of the valley, thanks to a major grant from the Playbuilder fund.

The wide open spaces are one of the main features contributing to the natural beauty of The Racecourse and the new facilities will aim to fit into the natural surroundings. The new attractions have been selected following extensive discussion with young people at local schools, youth forums and on the park itself, but additional public meetings will be organised before the particular items for play are finally agreed. However, the new play equipment will be ready for young people to play on by next Spring.

Students from Unity College have been involved in the grant application process and are enthusiastic about the new opportunities that will be provided.

Steve Summers, one of the local residents behind the initiative emphasised that “this award is particularly encouraging to all of us who have been working to improve facilities at the Racecourse and with forthcoming events such as the Youth Festival on August 8th, The Umbrella Fayre on August 15th, the temporary café during the summer and the refurbishment of The Pavilion as a Police and Partnership Office, The Racecourse will become even more of an exciting and safe place to visit”

Local residents adjacent to the park will receive a letter in the next few weeks inviting their comments about the proposals and more information will be available on the FONR stand at The Umbrella Fayre on August 15th.

(Playbuilder is a national Government initiative to provide improved creative and adventure play opportunities and The Racecourse is one of 9 projects in the county recently awarded funding)
